THE CURRICULUM
'The school provides an outstanding curriculum'
(OFSTED Report)
Alsop High School has always been at the forefront of developments to ensure that all students follow a relevant curriculum that matches their skills and aspirations. The award of Applied Learning status in 2006 recognised the success of the school and has enabled us to provide students with a wider range of courses and experiences.

In some subjects at Key Stage 3, students are taught in mixed ability classes, whilst in others students are placed in teaching groups according to motivation, attainment and ability. In either case full use is made of the available data to identify potential and ensure that teaching is personalised to individual student needs.

All students at Key Stage 3 study English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Spanish, PE, Music, Drama, Art & Design and PSHCE and in Years 8 and 9, ICT and Technology.

From September 2008 Year 7 pupils will follow a competence based curriculum for 10 periods per week. This innovative and exciting programme - known as APEX - will help students settle into secondary school and facilitate the development of a wide range of skills and competencies.

A full programme of information, advice and guidance is available to students to help them prepare for option choices at the end of year 9.
