Alsop’s Enrichment Scheme Benefits Budding Journalists
The Alsop Enrichment Scheme for Year 12 pupils in the school has proven a huge success just two months after students returned to school.
Whether it’s water sports, driving lessons or taking part in the Alsop Community Magazine, pupils have enjoyed taking time out of their busy A-Level schedule to partake in the weekly activities.
The Community School Magazine team (above) have been particularly busy. They have had to chase up stories, attend events, and even deliver the magazine to local houses and businesses. The team, however, are incredibly buoyant that it can be a huge success.
Led by two members of staff, Mrs Gibbon and Mr Ditchburn, the team attend a weekly meeting where stories are shared out and the students are given an opportunity to type up any outstanding articles, or even visit teachers for information on upcoming events.
The news team have all agreed that participating in the school magazine gives them an excellent chance to learn some valuable life skills, like interacting with peers, being confident enough to attend events and interview people, and meeting deadlines.
One member of the team, Peter Riding, summed up the feelings of the news team by saying: ‘I have really enjoyed working with the school magazine. The rest of the group are really terrific to work with and already I have learned so much about writing and working with others. It will also be an excellent addition to my Personal Statement when I go on to university, which I’m really pleased with.’
