Mr Ormsby Leaving Alsop After Ten Years in Charge of Humanities
‘Alsop is by far the best school I have worked at and I am not just saying that.’
After working at six different schools, Mr Ormsby finally settled at Alsop as head of the humanities department ten years ago. He is seen as one of the most approachable members of staff Alsop has and now he is leaving after making hundreds of friends throughout the years, both staff and students.

‘I went into teaching by accident; there was no other university course I could go to as I came home from Spain too late. I was never going to be a teacher, I wanted to be a surveyor but I missed my university place, and got into Edge Hill doing a teaching course.’
He remembers his time from when he was at school as being the class clown. Earlier this year he attended a school reunion with some boys he has not seen since he had left. ‘I was in a class of 25 lads when I was eleven and we had a reunion in town last year. Sixteen out of the twenty five turned up, including one lad who was expelled in year 8! We hadn’t met him in over 40 years and it was a brilliant experience. Do it yourself when you are all 57 and see how many show up from your Alsop form group.’
Mr Ormsby’s teaching skills have been highly recognised after once coming third in Radio City Teacher of the Year. Another acknowledgment was getting invited to 10 Downing Street to meet the then Prime Minister, Tony Blair, after being chosen out of thousands of teachers from across Liverpool. After recalling this memory, Mr Ormsby stated he felt honoured to represent his city.
Mr Ormsby’s is known around Alsop for his humour and friendly nature towards everyone and his upcoming plans are to stay healthy, travel and spend more time practicing with his band.
We wish him the best of luck with whatever he does in the future and would like to say thanks for everything throughout the years on behalf of Alsop High School.
By Gemma Nicholson and Abbie McKibbin, year 12.
