Palm House GCSE Art Trip
A very successful art trip was undertaken this October which saw the Year 10 Art GCSE group venture out to the Palm House, Sefton Park in order to undertake a drawing workshop.
“The aim of the trip was to develop the students’ skills at drawing from primary sources, something difficult to achieve in a classroom setting” said Ms Alker, who along with Mr Wyatt, Ms Siertsma, Mrs Begley and Ms Law led the group during the activity. The trip acted as an extension to the work the students had been completing in class, with a focus on the drawing of tropical oversized plants, something the students found innovative and exciting.

The behaviour throughout was excellent and the talent of each student shone with Daniel Metcalf, Emma Bradley, Rachelle Brown, Phoebe Bradley and Joseph Dobbie being noted for the outstanding work that they produced.
The trip was described positively, with Ms Alker quoting that “the trip had a nice working atmosphere, all of the students were really positive about the experience and class work has improved with the drawing of secondary sources becoming a main focus. The students all enjoyed the experience and cannot wait to enjoy similar trips in the future.”
Overall the trip was a resounding success, and with the students showing much improvement, a future excursion to a prestigious London art gallery is in the pipeline, which will hopefully spur on the group to produce some inspired pieces and achieve their true potential come the exam period.
