The Alsop summer production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a gobstopper of a show! Brimming with comic turns, musical numbers and technical wizardry.

Tristan Leonard, as a quirky and confident Willy Wonka, was the glue that held together this technically challenging production. Impressive computer generated special effects interspersed fine performances by Stephanie Fitzpatrick as nightmarish Veruca Salt and Michael Worsley as her harassed father. Thomas Mannion was a sparky Grandpa Jo while Anastasia Gibson was touching and lyrical as Mrs Bucket. Charly Owens played the eponymous Charlie with sensitivity that was a counterpoint to the brash, annoying Mike Teavee and Violet Beauregarde ably portrayed by Kevin Russell and Jess Dailey.
This Roald Dahl story is a very visual one which many schools would not even have attempted but here we had dancers in the aisles blowing bubbles, “TV Broadcasts”, boats on rivers of chocolate and a glass elevator that flew into the sky! It a credit to cast and staff that they pulled it off with such style and ingenuity!
