Alsop Allotment Project
Alsop recently purchased an allotment on the grounds of Walton Hall Park, which contains enough space for 5 flower beds and a moderate sized greenhouse. In its current state the allotment is over grown and not fit for any real purpose, but pastoral mentor Paul Deakin hopes “that with the help of the sixth form and key stage 4 students the school can begin to renovate the allotment in February 2012”. The main hope for this project is that it can turn a rundown space of land into an area capable of growing a wide variety of fruit, vegetables and even plants. This project, however, is not the first of its kind for the school as it previously refurbished an area close to the current allotment. This previous project saw a group of students from the school create a refreshment area consisting of several tables and benches where anybody working on the surrounding allotments can go to relax and enjoy various refreshments, which has proved to be a successful venture.
