Faculty Aims and Objectives

The aim of our faculty is to enable our students to develop their knowledge and understanding of all health and social care sectors; allowing them to consider pursuing a career pathway in a related field.

We have a range of classrooms for theoretical study, they accommodate computer access and are suitable environments for independent study to place in. Our faculty works alongside Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, allowing our students to access work placements during their KS5 course

Key Stage 4 Overview

Students have the option of selecting BTEC Health and Social Care. Our current course is a BTEC Tech Award in Health and Social Care which offers our students a diverse learning experience. The course covers, human lifespan development, health and social care services and values and health and wellbeing. Our course has both internal and external components.

Key Stage 5 Overview

The course content further enhances the understanding developed at KS4 and gives students an opportunity to put theory into practice and make decisions about their future career prospects.

In Health and Social Care, we offer our students an option to complete two courses a BTEC National Extended Certificate and a BTEC National Diploma. Both courses offer similar units. Human lifespan development, working in health and social care, meeting individual care needs and physiological disorders run through both courses. Additional areas covered in the National Diploma range from current issues in health and social care to principles of safe practice.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Our extra-curricular programme is centred on intervention; this may be directed to exam preparation or an opportunity for students to catch up on any outstanding pieces of coursework.
