Faculty Aims and Objectives

We aim to communicate effectively in Spanish in the four key skills of Speaking, Reading, Listening and Writing whilst improving levels of literacy in English and Spanish. Many of our students develop a cultural awareness of Hispanic countries and develop a higher level of fluency in the target language.

Facilities

We have a range of classrooms, some with computers. In addition there is the Faculty Pod which can be used for group work and one to one sessions.

Key Stage 3 Overview

The course builds on the foundations laid at kS2 developing the breadth and depth of students' competence in listening, speaking, reading and writing. This is based on a sound knowledge of core grammar and vocabulary. Key topics studied are Education, Leisure, Home and local area Festivals and Customs, Lifestyle and Literature.

Key Stage 4 Overview

The course builds on the progress made at KS3 in all four key skills with greater emphasis on grammar, extended writing and translation. Topics include The Environment, Family Relationships, Modern Technology, Education and Leisure.

Key Stage 5 Overview

The KS5 content further enhances the understanding developed at KS4, giving students an opportunity to learn and apply important transferable skills in critical thinking and analysis and the art of translation with intellectually stimulating texts and films, promoting a cultural and social awareness of Spain.

Key themes studied are: Art and Politics, Immigration and Multicultural Spain, The Franco Dictatorship and the Transition to Democracy.

Extra Curricular Activities

Key stage 4 intervention classes. Key stage 5 Speaking master classes.

Future Careers

Teacher, Translator, Interpreter, Linguist, careers in Law, Medicine, Civil Service, Business, Travel, Hotel Management, Editing and Publishing amongst many others.
