Alsop receives Westhill/NASACRE Award 2016/17

At the NASACRE Annual Conference held in Westminster it was announced that Alsop High School has been successful in our application for the Westhill/NASACRE Award for 2016-17. The award of £4000 has been made in recognition of partnership work undertaken with Liverpool SACRE and Liverpool Diocese during HOPE 2016. Two other awards were made to schools in Newham and North Yorkshire.Rev Prebendary Michael Metcalf, Awards Panel Convenor writes

Our warm congratulations to you, and our best wishes for the progress and fulfilment of your project.”

The award will be used during 2017 to develop a multi-faith RE project called “Near Neighbours.” The project will be based upon the Church Urban Fund “Near Neighbours” initiative. We will also work with Together for the Common Good and the Archbishop of York Youth Award to explore social justice. The Award will also enable the school to work with partner primary schools to look at faith groups based in Liverpool. The aim is to foster mutual friendship and respect amongst faith communities.

Peter Bull, Coordinator of HOPE 2016 comments

“This is fantastic news. It will enable the School to build upon the work undertaken as part of HOPE 2016. It will help us strengthen links with community partners.”

During 2016 Alsop has worked with partner primary schools and Walton Group of Churches to facilitate a festival to tell stories of hope to both school and community. Inspirational speakers have brought stories of hope in the face of many obstacles and social injustice.
