Alsop students “Crack the Code”

During Maths lessons year 7 and 8 students have been learning about World War One code breakers.

In recognition of the role mathematicians played during both world wars; students deciphered codes that soldiers sent during the war.

Students studied examples of some famous code breakers. The students were keen to discuss the work they had been doing in History, especially about Alan Turing and the Enigma machine.

Ms McMahon commented:

“Students enjoyed this creative approach to Mathematics. They were treated to war time songs whilst they worked hard cracking a series of codes.”

One student commented at the end of the lesson

“Who knew there was so much history in maths?”
