This week our Year 7 Nurture Group travelled back in time to traditional Viking village at Martin Mere. The students ‘invaded’ the roundhouse village of Mere Tun as part of their work in Literacy and History.
The unique outdoor interactive day gave students the chance to experience life as a Viking, learn traditional skills, and find out about the history of the mere and the surrounding area. Students defended the village with weapon training, had a go at horn-blowing, went foraging, made charcoal, thatched a roof and made a pig pen!
All of the elements in the village have been built using natural materials found on site including timber, clay, mud, cow manure and thatch.
Ms Walsh comments,
“It was an excellent opportunity for our students to work as a team and build on the many skills we promote in our Nurture Group. They were an absolute credit to Alsop High.”
