Alsop Young Leaders Initiative

This term we have selected a cohort of Y7 students to participate in the Alsop Young Leaders initiative. We have received funding from the Big Lottery Fund to set up an after-school club to equip young people to ‘be the change they want to see’ in their local communities. They will be following a programme which has been designed and written by the Archbishop of York Youth Trust. For more information, please visit www.abyyt.com.

The Young Leaders Award is an active citizenship programme which aims to equip young people with the leadership skills to be ambassadors in their local communities. Through a number of interactive activities and practical challenges they will be involved in serving their community and making a difference. They will be joining the thousands of students across the north of England who are changing their communities for the better.

The sessions are being held on Tuesday evenings between 3.15pm and 5pm in the Community Room. Every session will commence with a communal meal. There are three key elements to the award. These are Social Action, Hope in the Community and People of Faith. There may also be opportunities for parents and family members to get involved in the community action projects that will take place later in the year, and we will be in touch with more details nearer the time.

At the end of the award each student will receive a certificate and we will host an awards evening during the summer term.
