On Wednesday 16 th March 2016, a group of Alsop students, ranging from Years 9 to 12, attended a construction site visit to the Southlands Secondary School site, in Chorley, being run by Conlon Construction.

Students were guided around the site by Stefano Maticheccia, the site manager and Martin Kilheeney, the contracts manager.

The build was currently at the framing stage and students were able to see the steel skeleton of the building and see its foundations in detail. Steel erectors were currently working on site at the time and students could see this work taking place first hand. The project was explained in great detail and students were given a number of key construction documents and photographs to reference from, as they walked around the site, learning about the work that had been complete so far.

Students’ behaviour and conduct on the day were impeccable and the visit allowed for the reinforcement of classroom teaching and the opportunity to learn more about the day to day life of working in the construction industry.
