D Day Remembered at Alsop High School

The memory of D Day lives on at Alsop as students commemorated the 75th anniversary of this important event in the history of Europe.

Students were eager to learn D-Day is celebrated in remembrance of the brave soldiers who landed on the beaches of Normandy, France on June 6, 1944.

Alsop students laid a wreath at the school war memorial in remembrance of the former students and local residents who were killed in action, as they fought to liberate Europe from Nazi occupation and bring to an end to World War Two.

Mr Chris Wilson, Headteacher comments:

“It is important that young people remember the significant events that have shaped the history of modern Britain. The 75th anniversary of the D-Day Landings and the Battle of Normandy is a momentous occasion to celebrate peace, liberty and reconciliation.”
