English Literature students enthralled by Othello

This week Year 11, 12 and 13 students visited the Everyman to watch a performance of Othello.

Students were enthralled by the performance – for many their first experience of watching Shakespeare live. For Year 13s, who sit their A-Level English Literature exam in a few weeks, the performance brought the text to life and served as important revision of plot, characters and themes.

For Y11 students planning to take A-Level English Literature next year, the performance was a thrilling introduction to the text. Students will be involved in a follow-up discussion in which they will share their views on the this interpretation of the text which tackled issues of gender and homophobia – as well as jealousy, race and power – with its female lead.

Thanks to Mr Van Gordon for organising this visit.
