The culmination of our successful food scholarship programme has seen Alsop students cooking a three course meal from scratch.
The students had the opportunity to take part in an array of activities designed to stretch and challenge them, as well as enriching their experience of food preparation and nutrition. Over the past few months pupils worked with staff from Liverpool Community College who have supported them during the course and have been able to give pupils real life situations. They were able to gain knowledge about higher education and employment in the Hospitality and Catering field.
Parents were invited to come to the Academy Restaurant in Liverpool City centre. They enjoyed delights such as Goats Cheese and Red Onion Tart, Sautéed Mushroom a la King and Italian Roasted Lemon Chicken with Parmentier potatoes. The best part being a trio of desserts which included Lemon Posset, Profiteroles and Strawberry Short Cake.
Mrs Powell comments:
“ The young people thoroughly enjoyed the course. They were able to work in a real professional kitchen, with real chefs. They have learnt a range of skills which will stay with them for life”.
