Holocaust Survivor Zigi Shipper speaks at Alsop

This week 88 year old Auschwitz survivor, Mr Zigi Shipper visited Alsop. He delivered an unbelievable, powerful and inspiring story of survival, to year nine students, during a specially arranged assembly.

Zigi was ten when war broke out and he was moved into the Lodz Ghetto before being sent to Auschwitz. He survived by working in the metal factory, wore the now famous striped pyjamas and was branded with the number 84303. Before liberation, he was sent to another concentration camp, and forced on a death march.

After his presentation, Zigi answered questions. His message to Alsop students is “Do not hate – hate will destroy you.”

Mr Bull comments:

“We wish to thank the Holocaust Educational Trust for arranging this visit. We are honoured Zigi was able to share his very special, deeply moving and inspiring story. Zigi is a true gentleman and our hero.”
