It’s only a number!

New team of Numeracy Ambassadors appointed at Alsop High School to promote numeracy at the heart of the curriculum.

Following the historic visit of the Mr Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of England we are pleased to announce the appointment of our new team numeracy ambassadors. Mr Carney had challenged students to“pick opportunities that help you learn and grow as a person and to follow your passions.” He told them“You can do it!”

We are delighted that Alsop students have taken up the challenge of Mr Carney and they want to promote numeracy around the school. We now have a dedicated team of numeracy ambassadors working as part of our “Alsop Counts” numeracy strategy. This week they met with the Headteacher, Mr Mangan to discuss their important new role around school. They were keen to explain their responsibilities, including the promotion of weekly maths puzzles and encouraging teachers to highlight any maths used in their lessons.

Mr Mangan comments,

“It was a pleasure to meet with a fantastic group of students. They spoke confidently about why numeracy is important and they shared their ideas for promoting the use of numbers. I was very impressed with their enthusiasm and their determination to promote this new initiative.”
