Yo! Sushi

Pupils in Year 8 had a fantastic educational trip to YO! Sushi’s sushi-making experience in Liverpool ONE. They learned about the history and art of sushi making, as well as being shown how Grade A salmon is cut and prepared for high-quality sushi.
When asked if any of them knew the origin of sushi, Maks Szczuraszek said China, which amazed the sushi chefs. It is interesting to note that although sushi is a staple dish in Japan, its origins are in China.
Pupils learned how to create a variety of sushi rolls, including salmon sashimi slices, salmon nigiri, cucumber maki, crunchy California rolls, and salmon and avocado hand rolls. The restaurant complimented our pupils’ engagement, enthusiasm, and skills during the session.
Pupils were able to take everything they made home, although much of it was eaten before leaving the restaurant! This opportunity has given the pupils an excellent skill to utilise if they choose to pursue hospitality and catering as a GCSE option later in their school years.
