Action for Conservation

We are so pleased to welcome back Aurianna from Action for Conservation for another year of exciting 'WildED' workshops.
The WildED programme is a flagship initiative by the UK environmental charity Action for Conservation, designed to empower young people to make a difference to their school / community environment. It is aimed at urban schools, as our children sometimes feel a disconnection with nature. Eco-anxiety is becoming more common amongst young people, and we want to make sure that our students have a place to discuss such issues.
This year, we are running the project with a mixed group of Year, 7, 8 and 9s. They will hopefully form the beginnings of an eco-group for our school council.
There will be 8 workshops spread across the year, as well as an inspiration day, where we will take the children to a local allotment. There will be a mixture of traditional classroom-based learning, as well as plenty of opportunities for more hands-on learning outdoors.
Our session looked at different environments and covered some of the world's current environmental issues. We then went outside to find vegetation to create a colour wheel - the children were really surprised by how many colours were available at this time of year.
The next session will be in the first week back after half term. The geography team will keep you posted!
