Students from across the country attended the 2025 Youth Sport Trust Leadership Camp, where they took part in a packed and inspiring programme designed to develop their confidence, leadership skills, and teamwork. The camp offered a blend of practical and reflective workshops, including Communication & Empathy, Responsibility and Problem Solving, Planning and Delivery, and an introduction to the SMILES and STEP principles—key frameworks for creating inclusive, engaging physical activity sessions.
Throughout the week, students also engaged in Leadership Camp Games, Table Top Games, and a variety of National Governing Body (NGB) sports activities, giving them the chance to try new sports, collaborate with peers, and put leadership theory into practice. A memorable campfire evening provided an opportunity for team bonding and reflection.
One of the highlights of the camp was a motivational talk by Montell Douglas, a trailblazing British Olympian and BBC Gladiator known as "Fire." Montell, who famously held the British women’s 100m record at 11.05 seconds, shared her journey through elite sport, her mindset for success, and her message of resilience and empowerment. Her energy and insights left a lasting impression on all students.
The camp successfully nurtured leadership qualities, resilience, and collaboration, with students leaving inspired and equipped to take on leadership roles in sport and beyond.
